lines from well to house leak

Postby JennyS » Sun Jan 24, 2010 8:20 am

I have a new well on a new house that is a year old. I now have a leak in the lines coming from the well to the house. The line was inspected at 5' deep. My well company says it's from a rock or something piercing the pipe. He is scheduled to come and fix it Monday--I called him to come on Saturday morning after discovering a 40 psi drop in pressure from the tank and sand filling my sediment filter and tub. He showed me water gushing from the pipe up onto the grass (looked the Beverly Hillbillies, only water not oil, unfortunately). This company has lied to me repeatedly so I would like to become a little more educated so when I hover over them like a hawk when they dig it up, they can't rely on my ignorance yet again. I have photos of the pipe being laid and it is black and looks to be about 2" in diameter. I just want to know possible causes so I can be prepared to discuss it with him, as well as prevent further issues. Thank you.

It sounds like you have PE (polyethylene) pipe and a rock under or on it that is sharp enough will do it.

He should use 1 or 2 SS or brass couplers and a new piece of pipe to fix it and double clamp each end of the couplers. Ad get any rock from under it or on top of it out.
